ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly this morning [June 15] resumed general debate on the national Budget for 1976-77. Rao Khurshid Ali Khan (PPP-Sahiwal) resuming his overnight speech suggested introduction of Islamic economic system to support the ailing economy. He said Islam presented complete code of life offering solution of all problems. He said there were certain good aspects of the Budget, but was of the view that the man in the street could not be satisfied unless and until increasing prices of essential commodities were … checked. [He] said the gap in balance of payment and amount of loans received from abroad showed that there were no signs of improvement.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Rawalpindi,] Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto presided over a high-level meeting ... to discuss the promotion of tourism in the country. The meeting … reviewed the present position of tourism development … and identified various bottlenecks hindering its progress. ... The future of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation also came up for detailed scrutiny at the meeting.
