RAWALPINDI: Prime Minister Z.A. Bhutto today [June 13] said he has asked Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Minority Affairs, Maulana Kausar Niazi, to proceed to UK … next month to meet members of the Pakistani community and other residents of the Sub-continent as well as officials of the British Government … to assess and help remove racial tension there. He made an … appeal for understanding and tolerance … between the minority communities living in UK and the British Government and people. … The [PM] made it clear that it was the duty … of the new residents in UK to make quick adjustment and to rapidly integrate into the British social fibre.

He, however, added, he realised it was not so easy for people having … traditional heritage and moral values to adjust themselves to the new environments. Nevertheless … as migration had begun over a decade ago, integration should not be difficult … with … active cooperation from both sides. …[W]hile maintaining that the approach to racial problems should primarily be a moral and God-fearing one, the solution, [the PM] stressed, lay … in tackling economic compulsions.
