BAHAWALPUR: A woman driver was arrested while three persons, including a woman, were killed in three traffic accidents in tehsil Ahmedpur East and Bahawalpur on Sunday.
According to police, Aisha was allegedly recklessly driving her double-cabin when it hit a motorcycle near Chak 5/BC on the Hasilpur Road in the limits of Abbasnagar Police Station.
The motorcyclists, Muhammad Talhs and pillion Muhammad Sarfraz, were critically injured. They were shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) where Sarfraz succumbed to his injuries while Talha was shifted to the CMH for treatment.
Abbasnagar police, on the complaint of Sarfraz’s son, Ayyazul Faraz, registered an FIR, against Aisha and arrested her.
In the second accident, a man was killed while two others suffered injuries in a bus accident near Uch Sharif rest area on the motorway.
According to Rescue 1122, the bus conductor, Badshah Muhammad, attempted to turn the Karachi-bound bus from Bajaur but failed to control it and ran over three persons sitting on a charpoy. One of them, identified as Muhammad Sadiq Khan (34) of district Bajaur was killed at the spot while two others, namely Nazir and Abdul Wahab, suffered injuries.
The body as well as the injured were shifted to the THQ Hospital Ahmedpur East. The police arrested Badshah and impounded the bus.
In the third traffic accident, a woman pillion, Safia Bibi (50), was killed while her companion, Fazeelat Bibi (24), suffered serious injuries when the motorcycle on which they travelled were hit by a bus near Dara Chachran in tehsil Ahmedpur East. The police impounded the bus and arrested its driver.
ENCOUNTER: A suspect was arrested in an injured condition after an encounter with the Model Town police, Burewala, in Vehari district on Sunday.
According to police, a patrolling team was deployed at the godown blockade point when it signaled a suspected motorcyclist to stop but he fled after firing at the policemen. A police chase started and the suspect, in his bid to flee, hit an electric pole, fell down and suffered injuries.
The police identified the suspect as Waqas Arshad, a resident of Chak 89/6-R, Sahiwal, alleging that he was involved in several cases of robbery. Police recovered an illegal pistol and a snatched motorcycle from him and registered a case against him.
CLASH: A man was killed while two women suffered injuries in a shoot-out between two rival groups of farmers at Chak No.101/DNB, Shahiwala, in tehsil Ahmedpur East.
According to Rescue 1122 and police, the firing resulted in serious injuries to three members of a group. One of them, Shahbaz (45), was killed on the spot while two women, Shabana Bibi (40) and Ghazala (49), suffered critical injuries. Police shifted them along with the deceased’s body to THQ Hospital Ahmedpur East for a post-mortem.
