BAJAUR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz activists from tribal districts on Sunday accused the party’s central and provincial leaderships of ignoring them in the decision-making related to the region.

Speaking to reporters, Israr Khan Salarzai, PML-N Bajaur general secretary, said the PML-N-led federal government did not consult the leaders from tribal districts in decisions regarding development projects, operations in the merged districts, and appointments to several federal-level honorary positions.

Flanked by local leaders, Mr Salarzai said such an attitude was creating a sense of disappointment among workers.

He pointed out that multiple posts in different federal ministries/departments had been filled by people from the tribal districts who had no association with the party.

He said that taking such steps without consulting party workers was not only creating unrest among them, but also damaging the party’s image in the region.

“PML-N has worked for democracy and public service in the tribal districts, but neglecting the workers who contributed greatly to strengthening the party in the region was damaging the party’s position in the region,” he noted.

Describing the approach as a violation of the party’s manifesto, PML-N local leaders feared it would further damage the party’s position in the tribal districts if the central leadership did not take notice of it.

They urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ensure that all measures concerning the merged districts were taken in consultation with the party’s local leadership.
