LAKKI MARWAT: The police destroyed hideouts of terrorists in the forested area near the Wanda Painda Khan area here on Friday.
A police official said that the Saddar police, with the help of Counter-Terrorism Department commandos and Elite Force and Quick Response Force personnel, conducted the operation following information about the presence of terrorists and criminals there.
He said that the law enforcers searched the hideouts and then set them on fire.
He said that terrorists would use their safe havens established in the dense forests to plan and execute terrorist activities in the area, especially on the Lakki-Darra Tang section of the Bannu-Mianwali Road connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Punjab.
“During the operation, the police also set up temporary checkpoints on roads and dirt tracks leading to the forested area and searched suspected houses and vehicles,” he said.
It was not known if any suspects were arrested during the action.
Meanwhile, Abdulkhel elders and local police joined hands to eliminate criminals and social and moral evils from the district.
The consensus was reached during a meeting held at the District Headquarters Complex, Tajazai, on Friday.
District Police Officer Nazir Khan and other government officials also participated.
The elders and police officials agreed to formulate a joint strategy to curb narcotics peddling, firing in the air and other evils from the area.
