DADU: Rail traffic along Kotri sector was severely disrupted after five coaches of a goods train derailed near the city’s station on the down tracks on Wednesday.

According to railway officials, the goods train was returning to Karachi after unloading coal in the Yusuf Wali area when its coaches jumps off the tracks near Kotri station.

The derailment caused considerable damage to several metre-long tracks at the accident site, effectively blocking the rail traffic on the down track for several hours.

Rescue teams and technical staff from the Pakistan Railways maintenance section rushed to the site and put the coaches back on tracks. The repair and rehabilitation work was also carried out simultaneously to normalise the rail traffic.

Officials said it took the relief and rescue teams nine hours to accomplish the task.

No casualties were reported in the incident, they said.
