PESHAWAR: The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has finalised a special three-day Eidul Azha cleanliness operation plan as all staff leave has been cancelled.
A total of 3,850 personnel will perform duties in 42 urban union councils for the collection of sacrificial animal waste and remains, routine cleanliness, and water supply and drainage services, according to a statement issued here.
This includes 2,880 sanitation workers and 970 water supply staff members.
The plan was finalised during a meeting chaired by WSSP Chief Executive Officer Yasir Ali Khan, and attended by General Manager Operations Mohammad Ejaz, zonal managers, and other officials.
Over 790 small and large vehicles will be used to collect animal waste
According to the plan, 798 small and large vehicles will be used to collect animal waste and remains. Waste from streets and neighbourhoods will be gathered at 16 designated collection points, including Finland, Ring Road, Gulbahar Sabrina, Ramdas Chowk, Sufi Colony, Bahadar Kalay, Umar Gul Road, District Council Nothia Qadeem, Kotla Mohsin Khan, Gulabad, Charmari Road, Bahadar Kalay Ring Road, near Wapda Grid Station, Phandu Road, and Usmania Town near Ring Road.
From these points, the waste will be transported through larger vehicles to the Shamshato dumping site for safe disposal. Arrangements have also been made for the spraying, washing, and sprinkling activities.
Besides, the WSSP has also launched a proper campaign to dispose of animal waste and remains at the designated places.
Banners have already been displayed at different locations of the provincial capital and 15,000 pamphlets have been distributed.
The campaign will ensure the participation of 300 religious scholars and public representatives. More than 10,000 biodegradable bags will also be distributed for the safe disposal of animal waste and remains.
Religious scholars had also been engaged in the campaign, who have delivered special cleanliness messages during Friday sermons, and will do the same during Eid prayers, emphasising hygiene, proper waste disposal, and the use of designated collection points to protect public health and the environment.
Special monitoring teams in all five zones will supervise operations during the three days of Eid. The Head Office Complaint Cell helpline 1334 and zonal complaint cells will remain operational round the clock.
In addition, arrangements have been made in areas surrounding the airport to prevent the gathering of birds.
WSSP management has appealed to citizens to cooperate with staff for a clean and safe Eid, not to dispose of animal waste on roads, drains, canals, or open spaces, and to use only designated collection points to help prevent foul smell, spread of diseases, and public health risks.
An emergency response plan has also been prepared in case of rain or any unexpected situation.
Under the plan, special teams equipped with dewatering pumps, jetting machines, water tankers, and emergency vehicles will remain available 24/7 to handle rain, blockages, and other emergencies.
