LAKKI MARWAT: The first confirmed dengue case of the year was reported in Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday, prompting health officials to expedite the efforts to contain the vector-borne disease.

A health official said that the case was reported from the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Serai Naurang.

He said that the district health office had put in place a comprehensive mechanism to conduct screening of suspects in hospitals and health facilities across the district.

“Of the total suspected cases, one patient has tested positive for dengue,” he said, adding that the health department, with a strengthened case response mechanism, launched efforts to conduct fumigation and screening of the family members of the dengue patient.

Officials speed up efforts to contain disease

He identified the patient as Hanifullah, a resident of Sardari Kallay Gandi Khankhel, and said that a team of health experts visited his house to implement case response protocols.

The official said that the health experts carried out a screening of the family members of the patient and conducted a spray inside the house.

He said that fumigation was also carried out in the surrounding area, and insecticide-treated nets were distributed among the villagers.

Meanwhile, the district administration formulated a plan to provide a clean and pollution-free environment to citizens on Eidul Azha by ensuring the timely disposal of waste from sacrificial animals.

Under the Pak, Saaf, Shafaaf Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Initiative, the administration has registered the individuals who will perform the religious obligation of slaughtering animals in Lakki Marwat, Sarai Naurang, Ghaznikhel, Darra Pezu and Tajori.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for Home and Tribal Affairs Tariq Saeed Khan inaugurated the project at the District Headquarters Complex, Tajazai.

He distributed disposable plastic bags for animal waste collection to the sanitation staff of the tehsil municipal administration and the local government department.

Deputy commissioner Hameedullah Khan said that the administration, with the help of the revenue and police departments, TMA and volunteers, launched a door-to-door campaign to collect the data of around 5,000 citizens who would slaughter animals during the Eid days.

He said that the activity aims to facilitate people in disposing of the waste of sacrificial animals.
