Cop guarding polio team injured in Chaman attack

QUETTA: A police official assigned to provide security to a polio vaccination team was seriously injured in a firing incident near Ishaqzai Qila area of Chaman on Sunday, but members of the polio team remained safe.

According to police, unidentified armed men opened fire on a police officer deployed with the polio team, leaving Hawaldar Habib-ur-Rehman critically injured.

The injured policeman was taken to Civil Hospital Chaman, where he is receiving medical treatment.

Police officials said the polio team was safely moved to a secure location following the attack, while additional police personnel were dispatched to the area.

Authorities said similar attacks on security personnel deployed with polio teams had occurred in the area in the past as well.

A search operation has been launched in the area and efforts are underway to trace attackers.
