SAHIWAL: The City Police claim to have arrested a member of a gang involved in mobile phone theft and selling the stolen phones in the local markets of Faisalabad and Sahiwal.

Police also claimed to have recovered 22 mobile phones worth Rs5 million.

According to reports, Muhammad Naseeb, a resident of Chak 412/GB, Faisalabad, along with Ali Raza, known as a pocket picker and resident of Sharif Colony, Sahiwal, were allegedly running the gang.

The duo allegedly stole mobile phones and sold them in local markets -- the phones stolen in Sahiwal were sold off in Faisalabad, while the phones from Faisalabad were sold in Sahiwal.

Police claimed that acting on a tip-off, a shop was raided and Muhammad Naseeb was arrested, while Ali Raza managed to escape.

A case was registered on the complaint of ASI Muhammad Nadeem.

RAPE: The Yousafwala Police registered a case against three persons for allegedly sexually assaulting a young girl from village 66/5-L, Sahiwal.

The victim’s father in his complaint said that on May 16 his daughter was alone at home when she was kidnapped by three persons, including a woman.

The suspects allegedly rendered her unconscious by forcing her to inhale a chemical-soaked handkerchief before taking her away in a car. The victim told the police that she regained consciousness in a locked room near Shamas Colony on Multan Bypass in Multan city.

She alleged that she was repeatedly assaulted by the accused. After several days, she managed to escape by breaking the door and returned to Sahiwal.

Following a medical examination, the Yousafwala Police registered a case against the three suspects. However, none of them had been arrested at the time of filing this report.

EID PREPARATIONS: Around 2,182 sanitary workers along with an additional staff of 132 will operate in two shifts to manage sacrificial waste on Eidul Azha across the 12 urban union councils and rural localities of Sahiwal tehsil.

The Suthera Punjab workers will cover one cattle market, 12 slaughter waste collection points, 12 private Qurbangahs, 12 slaughter houses, 24 awareness camps throughout the tehsil. In addition, 60 special collection points were established for collection of animal and sacrificial waste only.

This was stated by Sahiwal Solid Waste Company (SSWC) Managing Director Shahid Nadeem Rana while addressing the media at his office on Friday.

He said that as part of the grand Eid operation, around 150,000 biodegradable waste bags would be distributed among citizens to promote proper animal waste disposal. In addition, approximately 10,000 kilograms of lime lining would be used to eliminate the odour of sacrificial animals, while 3,000 litres of rosewater would be utilised during sprinkling during the operation.

He said that a GPS-based CCTV monitoring system would be operational, with round-the-clock supervision from a central control room. The MD said that three model camps would be set up at Pakpattan Chowk, Tanki Chowk, and College Chowk to provide plastic and other waste bags to citizens.

The control room would oversee field operations, identify problems, deploy staff where required, and provide real-time guidance to teams in the field, he added.
