When asked if he would be open to a limited deal with Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump responds, “We have to open the strait … so we’re going to give this one shot.”
He adds that he is “in no hurry” and that “ideally, I’d like to see few people killed as opposed to a lot. We can do it either way.
“I just wonder whether or not they have the good of the people [in mind], because some of the things they’re doing, to me, means they don’t have the good of the people,” Trump tells reporters. “There’s a lot of anger now in Iran because people are living so badly … we’ll see what happens.”
Asked if it was taking too long to come to an agreement with Tehran, Trump has replied by comparing the length and death toll of the Iran campaign to previous US wars in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.
