PRACTICAL EXAMS: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad (BISEH), along with other Sindh boards, has replaced Class XI and XII science practical examinations with a 15-mark compulsory question in the written theory paper. Previously, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology and Botany practical exams were conducted in college laboratories by subject teachers who evaluated actual student performance. This ensured genuine scientific learning and discipline. Now, teachers have lost evaluative authority, students will lose lab motivation, and administrations will abandon lab maintenance. Education departments will cut labora- tory budgets, viewing them as redundant. The relevant authorities must restore practical examinations urgently.

WATER ARRANGEMENT: There is no proper drinking water facility at the Government Girls High School Winder in Balochistan. In the extreme heat, young students are forced to bring water coolers and bottles from home every day. This is poor management, and raises serious questions about the education system. Where are the school funds and why are they not being used to provide basic facilities to the students? The relevant authorities should immediately take notice of the rather serious issue and provide proper drinking water facilities to the school on an urgent basis.

TAX ON MILK: I was truly shocked to learn that the government has levied 18 per cent general sales tax (GST) on milk since 2024, which has adversely affected dairy production and supply chain. Knowing the fact that 40pc of children in Pakistan suffer from mal-nutrition and stunting, levying tax on milk is a criminal act. Moreover, it is also suggested that instead of raw, unprocessed milk, only pasteurised milk should be allowed for sale in the market, and there should be no GST or any other type of tax on milk or dairy products.
