NAROWAL: Rescue 1122 divers on Monday retrieved the bodies of a minor girl and her brother, who had drowned in Marala Link Canal in Sialkot district on Sunday.

A Sialkot Rescue 1122 spokesperson says that they were informed by a caller on Sunday that a girl, Komal Shabaz (13) and her brother, Sameer (7), drowned in the canal near Dhale Wali village.

He says that a team of divers, led byDistrict Emergency Officer (DEO) Naveed Iqbal, reached the spot and launched a search operation in the canal, but could not trace the siblings till late in the evening.

On Monday, the team finally traced and retrieved the bodies from the canal, around 600 meters away from the place where the children had drowned.

He said that the Rescue 1122 team, after completing the legal proceedings, handed over the bodies to the parents of the deceased children.

The spokesperson says, quoting eyewitnesses, that the siblings were playing on the bank of the canal, when Sameer fell into the water. He says that Komal jumped into the canal to save her brother, but she also drowned.
