Policeman, FC official martyred in DI Khan, Tank attacks

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A policeman and an official of the Federal Constabulary were martyred in attacks in the Dera and Tank districts on Monday, the police said.

An official said that unidentified armed men opened fire on Constable Abdul Aziz, outside the Yarik police station here, killing him on the spot.

Soon after the incident, a heavy contingent of police reached the area, cordoned off the surroundings and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

The official said further investigation into the incident was underway.

Police sources said the motive behind the incident was personal enmity.

Later, the funeral prayers of the slain constable were offered at the Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines in Dera.

Regional Police Officer Ghulam Mubashir Maken, District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmad and other senior officers attended the funeral.

A contingent of the police presented a salute to the deceased, while floral wreaths were laid on the coffin and special prayers were offered for the departed soul.

Meanwhile, an official of the Federal Constabulary, identified as Mujeeb Khan, was martyred after unidentified attackers opened fire on him in the Alikhel village of Tank district.

He died on the spot, while the attackers managed to escape from the scene, the police said.

Also, unidentified armed men shot dead an official of the wildlife department in the Wanda Zhallo village of Tank district.

Police said the assailants opened fire on the official and fled the scene after the attack.

Police shifted both bodies to the hospital for postmortem and launched investigations into the incidents.

Security forces and police intensified patrolling in the areas, while efforts were under way to identify and arrest those involved in the attacks.
