NAROWAL: A Class III student in Narowal was electrocuted at her school at village Langah Bhatian, Shakargarh, on Thursday.

Imama Arshad, 9, daughter of Muhammad Arshad was a student at the Shaheen Public School. According to local sources, plumbing and welding work was going on in the school without taking any safety measures. Imama had gone to drink water when she fainted after being electrocuted by an electric wire. She was being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Narowal, when she died.

Arif Shahzad, chief executive officer, District Education Authority, Narowal, told Dawn that the student had gone to the electric water cooler to drink water during the school break but the nozzle of the water cooler had electric current. He said the Shaheen Public School was a private educational institution and it was sealed due to incompetence of its administration.

Narowal Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tayyab Khan told Dawn the parents of the deceased did not want to take legal action against the school administration. He said the education department would register an FIR against the school principal.
