Proposals for gems sector

LAHORE: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI) President Faheemur Rehman Sehgal on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Gems and Jewellers Reforms Committee.

Pakistan Gem & Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) Chairman Shahid Iqbal Qureshi attended the meeting where proposals and recommendations were presented regarding development of the gems, jewellery, mining and minerals sectors, the promotion of exports and the resolution of issues faced by traders.

The PGJDC functions as a subsidiary of the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) under the Federal Ministry of Industries and Production.

Mr Qureshi lauded the valuable suggestions of the participants and stated that such meetings would continue to be held regularly in the future.

He announced that a special committee would be formed to consult with relevant associations and unions for better coordination and sector-wide development.

Representatives from Anjuman Tahafuz Zargaran and other stakeholders from the gems and jewellery sector also participated in the meeting.
