CHARSADDA: A constable, who was critically injured in an attack on a checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda last month, succumbed to his wounds, police said on Thursday.
Charsadda police spokesperson Safiullah said Constable Sajjad Khan was injured when unidentified militants targeted the Azizabad checkpost with explosive material on April 22.
He said the constable was taken to the hospital in a critical condition, where he remained under treatment before embracing martyrdom late on Wednesday night.
Saifullah said that the constable’s funeral prayers were offered on Thursday morning with official honours at Police Lines Charsadda. A smartly turned-out police contingent saluted the martyr, while floral wreaths were laid on the coffin, he added.
District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Waqas Khan, Superintendent Police Investigation Alamzeb Khan, Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Headquarters Anwar Khan, Counter Terrorism Department DSP Jamshed Khan, the relatives of the deceased and a large number of residents attended the funeral prayers.
DPO Khan paid tribute to the sacrifice of the slain constable, saying the sacrifices rendered by police personnel in the war against terrorism would not go in vain.
The DPO said the police force had always played a frontline role in maintaining peace and combating militancy, adding that the bravery and dedication of the constable would be remembered for a long time.
KP has witnessed a surge in terrorist violence over the past year. According to the Annual Security Report 2025 by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), fatalities in the province rose from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.
On Tuesday, nine people, including two traffic policemen, were martyred while 33 others were injured in a blast in the Serai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat district.
On Saturday night, 15 police officers were martyred and three others wounded after terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into Fateh Khel police post in KP’s Bannu district, followed by attacks from multiple directions with heavy weaponry and drones.
