Unit raided for marketing diluted semen

SAHIWAL: Officials of the District Livestock Department, accompanied by police, raided a private semen production center in a village in Chichawatni tehsil on Tuesday .

Livestock officials learnt the center was involved in the provision of fake, diluted, and `mislabelled’ semen being supplied to farmers and breeders. The raiding team failed to arrest farm owner.

Chichawatni police registered a criminal case under sections 32 & 33 of the Punjab Livestock Breeding Act 2014 on the complaint of Muhammad Ali Aslam, Additional Director, Livestock Department, against Rashid Murad, owner of the center.

According to reports, complaints had been received against a private semen production facility in village 110/12-L, alleging illegal preparation and sale of `sexed Friesian’ bull semen named`Red Diamond’.
