MIRPURKHAS: A station house officer (SHO) was sent behind bars on Saturday for harassing an assistant commissioner and keeping him in unlawful confinement a couple of days back.

Mirpurkhas DIG Faisal Abdullah Chachar, taking notice of the incident, suspended Town SHO Inspector Amin Marri and ordered an inquiry into the whole episode after Assistant Commissioner Saud

Muneem of the Hussain Bakhsh Taluka reported the matter to him.

Sources privy to the matter stated that a protest demonstration against AC Mueem was staged by around 50 families on Thursday evening. The participants were accusing him of siding with “land-grabbers”, who were out to dispossess the families from their homes in Saindad Colony.

The protesters were displaying ownership documents of their homes issued by the Katchi Abadis department.

During the course of the protest, SHO Marri picked up the assistant commissioner and lodged him in the lock-up. Upon receiving the information, the DIG directed Mirpurkhas SSP Syed Fida Hussain Shah to immediately get the AC released and register an FIR against the SHO.

Meanwhile, the suspended SHO has since obtained his bail from a court in a sum of Rs10,000.
