KARACHI: A woman was shot dead by fleeing robbers in Soldier Bazaar late on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

Area SHO Waqar Azeem said that two robbers on a motorcycle snatched a cell phone from a mechanic in Soldier Bazar No 3. As they fled, the victim raised an alarm, alerting the area people, who attempted to catch the robbers.

The robbers panicked and resorted to firing, resulting in bullet wounds to a passer-by, later identified as Yasmeen Ali Raza, 55.

She was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where she died during treatment, said police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed.

The police said the robbers managed to escape from the scene.
