LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday summoned the sureties of fashion designer Khadija Shah for continuously failing to appear in the trial proceedings of May 9 cases against her.

Judge Manzer Ali Gill resumed the trial proceedings in multiple cases of May 9 riots and a prosecutor stated that Ms Shah had gone into hiding after being convicted in one of the cases.

He said the convict, who was on bail, had not been appearing before the court in the ongoing trials against her.

The judge initiated proceedings against Ms Shah over her continuous non-appearance and summoned Jehanzeb and Murad Ali, who furnished sureties for her bail.

The judge adjourned the proceedings against the sureties till May 11.

An anti-terrorism court had sentenced Khadija Shah, a granddaughter of former army chief Asif Nawaz Janjua, to five-year imprisonment in a case of torching a Supreme Court judge’s squad vehicle near Jinnah House during the May 9 riots.
