LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Thursday arrested seven suspects involved in online fraud and extortion.

According to the NCCIA spokesperson, the Faisalabad Circle arrested two suspects involved in deceiving citizens, particularly InDrive drivers, by impersonating army officers.

“The suspects, Muzammal Abbas and Muhammad Akhtar, residents of Lalian and Chiniot, used to contact InDrive drivers while posing as army officers or parcel recipients. The suspects allegedly provided fake information and persuaded drivers to transfer money on different pretexts, assuring them that the amount would be returned upon parcel delivery.

However, after receiving the money, they would cut off all communication. Mobile phones and other items were recovered during the raid,” he said.

In a separate raid, NCCIA Multan arrested five suspects involved in extorting money from citizens by impersonating police officers.

The spokesperson said the arrested suspects – Raheel Warraich, Ali Warraich, Nadeem Imran, Qadeer Hussain and Burhan Majeed – would contact citizens while posing as police officers, intimidating them with threats of legal cases and police action, and demanding money.
