LAKKI MARWAT: In view of the prevailing law and order situation, the police have beefed up security of banks across the district to avert any untoward incident.

A police official said on Wednesday that stringent security measures had been put in place for banks on the special instructions of DPO Nazir Khan.

He said that the sub-divisional police officers and station house officers had been directed to implement banks’ security related standard operating procedures (SOPs) in letter and spirit. “The police officers will also conduct the security audit of banks, besides checking the presence of security guards, functionality of close-circuit television cameras and setting up of walk-through gates,” he said.

He said that the district police chief had also directed his subordinate officials to keep a close liaison with bank management and remove loopholes, if any, to strengthen the security of banks.

He said that the police officials had been directed to ensure the weapons and ammunition the bank security guards possessed were operational.

FLOOD EMERGENCIES: District administration has asked relevant agencies, especially emergency rescue service, to enhance their capacity and complete preparedness to cope with flood-related emergencies during the upcoming monsoon season.

The directions to this effect were issued during a meeting held at the District Headquarters Complex Tajazai in Lakki Marwat on Wednesday with the additional deputy commissioner for human rights and relief, Sohail Ahmad Bukhari, in the chair.

The additional assistant commissioner, Muhammad Asad Khan, Rescue 1122 DEO Bilal Afridi, ADEOs Dr Ihsanullah and Sajjad Khan and officials of line departments were in attendance.

The meeting discussed the monsoon contingency plan and emphasised effective coordination among government departments, district administration and civic agencies and the emergency rescue service to ensure timely response to flood emergencies.

Matters pertaining to preparedness of relevant agencies, availability of equipment and machinery and staff were also discussed.

The additional deputy commissioner directed the government officials to take preventive measures and identify vulnerable areas so that the local administration could formulate a comprehensive strategy to mitigate rain and flood losses.
