ISLAMABAD: The father of senior journalist Javaid-ur-Rehman and a prominent scholar, educationist and teacher Professor Hafeez-ur-Rehman died on Monday after a brief illness. He was 85.

He was laid to rest at a graveyard adjacent to Jalal Baqri Masjid, near Government Rifah-i-Aam High School, Multan on Monday night, according to an announcement by the family.

He has left behind a widow, three sons and a daughter.

Javaid-ur-Rehman works in daily The Nation as senior parliamentary reporter.

Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Senate Chairman Syedal Khan Nasr, office-bearers of the National Press Club, Parliamentary Reporters Association and Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists in their separate statements expressed grief over the demise of Professor Hafeez-ur-Rehman and condoled with his son.

In a statement, the NA speaker stated that parents were an invaluable blessing, and the presence of a father was a great support, adding that a father’s passing is an irreparable loss.

He extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Javaid-ur-Rehman and the bereaved family and said he shared their grief in this difficult time.
