LAHORE: Two labourers died after suffering critical head and chest injuries after a makeshift lift collapsed at an under-construction building in the Gulberg area here on Sunday.

The Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the spot on being informed of the incident and after declaring the two labourers, identified as Ghulam Hussain and Abdul Ghaffar, dead, handed their bodies over to the police for further investigations into the incident.

A police official said the labourers were working at the under-construction building near the Liberty Roundabout, when a makeshift lift made of iron rods to carry building material and workers, suddenly collapsed, causing fatal head and chest injuries to the two victims.

The official said the police were trying to reach the victims’ families to hand over the bodies to them after completion of legal formalities.
