KARACHI: Governor of Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has invited Uzbek investors to explore attractive investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh, stating that vast potential exists in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone and in the textile, agriculture, manufacturing, logistics and energy sectors.

He expressed these views while meeting an Uzbek business delegation led by the Governor of the Navoi Region, Normat Tursanov, at the Governor House here on Saturday.

Ambassador of Uzbekistan Alisher Tukhtaev, Chairman of the Businessmen Group Muhammad Zubair Motiwala and Sohail Moten were also present on the occasion.

During the meeting, the governor of the Navoi Region congratulated the Sindh governor on assuming office and extended best wishes. He also invited him to visit the Navoi Region, particularly Tashkent, which Mr Hashmi accepted.

The governor stated that the government is ensuring full facilitation for investors in economic zones.

He emphasised that Karachi is the economic hub of Pakistan and highlighted the need to enhance trade links between Navoi and Karachi.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral trade, investment and industrial cooperation.

It was also noted that flights from Uzbekistan to Lahore and Islamabad are operational, and there was also a desire to initiate direct flights to Karachi as well.

The governor of Navoi Region highlighted that the region offers attractive historical sites for cultural tourism and stressed the importance of promoting cultural exchange programmes, business forums and joint ventures.

“Uzbek businessmen are importing pharmaceutical, surgical, sports, textile and leather products from Pakistan”, said Ambassador Tukhtaev. He added that there is strong demand in Uzbekistan for Pakistani livestock, particularly sheep and goats, as well as fruits.

He further noted that over 3,000 Pakistani students are currently studying in various universities in Uzbekistan, and that the country’s annual trade has recorded a seven per cent increase over the past four years.

Pakistan and Uzbekistan agreed to facilitate the business community to enhance bilateral trade volume.

The Navoi Region governor and Ambassador Alisher recorded their impressions in the guest book.
