SUKKUR: A man, along with his two associates, was arrested for attacking a donkey with an axe and brutally chopping its flesh in Shakar Khan Brohi village of Jacobabad district on Saturday.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took a serious notice of the incident after a video clip showing the scenes of brutality with the animal went viral. He ordered the area police to immediately take action against the culprits.

Officials at the Dilmurad police station arrested the suspect, Maula Bakhsh Brohi, who told them that he was infuriated by the off and on damage being caused to his crop by the donkey. However, locals linked Brohi’s heartless act to his personal enmity with the animal’s owner, Habibullah Brohi.

The police said that two of the suspect’s associates were also arrested. An FIR against the three suspects was registered on the complaint of Habibullah.

The police visited Habibullah Brohi’s home and took the donkey to the police station, where emergency medical treatment was given to it by a vet. They said pieces of flesh were chopped off from its back and legs, leaving the animal in extreme pain.

The locals told media personnel that Maula Bakhsh and Habibullah had been at odds over some matter for quite some time. They said that Maula Bakhsh, along with some of his associates, went to the home of Habibullah on Saturday and after a heated argument, Maula Bakhsh started attacking the donkey with an axe.

Some onlookers filmed the incident and posted the videos on social media platforms to draw attention of the authorities concerned to the act of brutality with the animal.
