BADIN: The Badin chapter of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) has criticised “new restriction” being enforced to undermine their livelihood.

In a statement issued here on Friday, local PFF leaders claimed that Rangers personnel posted at several checkpoints along Badin’s coastline were detaining fishermen for hours and being compelled to obtain entry pass, although the fishermen possessed valid fishing licence issued by the fisheries department.

According to the forum, the move was affecting thousands of fishermen families. It recalled that after a long-running struggle, the fishermen community had succeeded in getting the contract system abolished in 2005. But now, they deplored, the same system was being enforced in the shape of entry pass restriction.
