MARDAN, July 1: About 352 proclaimed offenders (POs), including 44 involved in murder cases, voluntarily surrendered to Mardan police in presence of the District Police Officer, the District Nazim and the Chairman of Police Public Safety Commission (PPSC) here on Thursday.

DPO Abid Ali had launched a campaign against POs in the district and in this connection had held a meeting with the nazims of 76 union councils on May 29 and asked them to help in arrest of POs in their respective UCs.

In the entire district, PS City took lead in the campaign as 81 out of total 138 POs within its jurisdiction surrendered before police. 214 POs surrendered in Takhtbai, Mardan Rural and Sheikh Maltoon Town. 44 of them were involved in murder cases.

On this occasion the DPO, District Nazim and Chairman PPSC thanked the nazimeen and elders of the district for playing their cooperation.

They claimed that surrender by such a large number of proclaimed offenders was a unique incident in Mardan district and hoped that crimes would be controlled in the district with the help of nazims and elders.

Meanwhile DIG Salman Khan distributed commendation certificates among nazimeen, elders and police officers.
