SUKKUR: The Model Criminal Court of Khairpur on Tuesday handed down capital punishment to three men and as many women in a woman’s kidnapping, murder and burial case.

According to the judgement, the prosecution successfully proved its case against the six accused — Syed Abid Shah, Syed Niaz Shah, Syed Dur Mohammad Shah, Ms Kulsoom, Ms Nisar Begum, and Ms Dilshad Begum — beyond any shadow of doubt.

They were accused of kidnapping and murdering a woman, Ghulam Sakina, and burying her body in the Ubri area of Babarloi town of Khairpur district in 2013.

Each of the convicts were ordered to pay a fine of Rs100,000 as well.

Convicts found guilty of kidnapping and murdering a woman and burying her body in 2013

According to the Babarloi police, an extensive investigation into the murder case was carried out to reach the suspects soon after the FIR was lodged against them under Sections 302 (Qatl-e-Amad), 364 (kidnapping or abducting a person with the intent to murder), 34 (common intention), 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence or giving false information) and 149 (every member of a group present is guilty) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The convicts were escorted to jail after judgement was pronounced.

The Khairpur district police said that undeniable evidence and proofs were collected and put up before the judge.

During the trial, the accused were brought to the court and witnesses cross-examined.

The accused availed legal assistance to defend themselves.

Finally, the charges framed against them stood proved and the accused were sentenced to death.

In a press release, the Khairpur police attributed the successful prosecution to their “excellent investigation”.

They said that during the process of the investigation, the victim’s body was exhumed on a court order under the supervision of a judicial officer. A police team led by DSP (Legal) Mir Mohammad Dayo, along with SI Abdul Ghafoor Sargani and other personnel, had apprehended the suspects, the statement said.

Khairpur SSP retired Captain Ameer Saud Magsi said that the police demonstrated professional excellence by making all relevant evidence part of the case file.

The law provided justice to the victim, he said.
