LARKANA: A local councillor, who owns an estate agency, was deprived of Rs1.495m he had just drawn from a bank branch in the Lahori Mohalla, within the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines police station, on Tuesday.

The victim, Abdul Ghaffar Sangi, told police that he had drawn the money from a bank’s Lahori Mohallah branch and was on his way back to his real estate office when two masked men riding a motorcycle robbed the money at gunpoint at around 10am. He said the bike-riders had intercepted him in a narrow street within the locality.

Mr Sangi, associated with the opposition Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), stated that the money pertained to a property transaction.

On his complaint, DSP Saad Jabbar, along with the Civil Lines SHO and other police personnel, proceeded to the specified spot and also obtained the CCTV camera footage of the incident. The video clearly showed the two masked bike-riders intercepting Mr Sangi and snatching the money from him at gunpoint in the specified alley and then fleeing the area.

The police said a formal investigation into the incident was started and a hunt for the suspects was underway.
