KHYBER/BANNU: Six terrorists were killed in separate operations by security forces in Khyber and Bannu districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.

As many as five terrorists were killed during a major counter-terrorism operation in the Akkakhel area of Bara in Khyber district.

Security officials said that the operation was launched in Tandori village of Akkakhel, bordering Khazankhel village on the outskirts of the provincial capital, Peshawar.

They said that terrorists who had, over the past few weeks, descended from the restive Tirah Valley, had gathered in significant numbers in Tandori village and Khazankhel.

They said that, due to the persistent threat, an operation was launched with special emphasis on avoiding collateral damage to civilians.

According to officials, use of quadcopters and drones was avoided to minimise the risk of civilian casualties.

Meanwhile, security forces eliminated a wanted terrorist, Naeemat Wazir alias “Grenade”, in a counter-terrorism operation in Mamatin Khel, Jani Khel subdivision of Wazir.

Security officials said that during the operation, an intense exchange of fire took place between security personnel and terrorists, resulting in the killing of Wazir, who was reportedly involved in multiple acts of terrorism and was considered a key figure in spreading unrest in the area.
