KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Monday claimed to have busted an illegal call centre operating from Raza Arcade near Baloch Colony Bridge, Sharea Faisal.
A statement said the centre was engaged in scamming foreigners by impersonating representatives of debt settlement agencies and banks.
During the raid, three individuals, Sunil Slamat (owner), Shane Saleem and Eris Jawaid (partners) were arrested. “The accused persons confessed their involvement in fraudulent activities targeting victims abroad,” said the NCCIA spokesperson.
Devices used in the crime have been seized. Technical analysis revealed sensitive financial data of foreign nationals and spoofing software. FIR No. 28/2026 was registered under the provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Amended 2025).
Further investigation is underway to trace their associates, including money flows, international operations, local hundi/hawala and money laundering activities.
Stray bullet claims life of MQM MNA’s daughter
A 19-year-old medical student, who was the daughter of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) MNA Iqbal Mehsud, died after being struck by a stray bullet in her Gulshan-i-Iqbal home, police said.
Area SHO Mohammad Saud told Dawn a bullet fired from an unknown direction hit the daughter of MNA Iqbal Mehsud Khan while she was standing on the terrace of her home on Saturday night at 10pm.
He said that she sustained critical injuries and was taken to a private hospital in the area, where she died during treatment on Sunday afternoon.
The SHO said police had fulfilled legal formalities, but added that the family was reluctant to lodge an FIR of the incident.
