KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the allotment of over 22 acres of government land for the construction of a six million gallons per day (MGD) water treatment plant in Hyderabad.
According to a press statement issued here on Sunday, the decision is aimed at addressing growing water needs and improving supply in Qasimabad and adjoining areas.
At a meeting held at the CM House, Minister for Planning & Development and Irrigation Jam Khan Shoro briefed the CM that the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) had requested allocation of land in Deh Jamshoro, Taluka Qasimabad, for the project under an annual development programme (ADP) Scheme.
He added that district authorities identified approximately 25 acres of government land in Village Misri Shaikh, out of which 22 acres fall in Category “A-1” and are suitable for immediate utilisation.
The CM approved the proposal to earmark and allot the land in favour of the Hyderabad mayor, who is the younger brother of Mr Shoro, for the construction of the water treatment plant.
He emphasised the urgency of improving urban water infrastructure and directed the authorities to ensure the timely execution of the project. “We must prioritise provision of safe and clean drinking water to our people, particularly in rapidly growing urban centres like Hyderabad,” the CM said.
He directed the planning and development department and local authorities to fast-track all legal and administrative formalities so that construction work could commence without delay.
He noted that the project would significantly enhance water treatment capacity and help meet increasing demand in Qasimabad and surrounding localities.
“This project is not just an infrastructure investment — it is about public health, improved living standards and sustainable urban development,” he said.
The meeting concluded with instructions to ensure transparency in land utilisation and strict monitoring of project implementation to deliver timely results for the citizens of Hyderabad.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Planning and Development Board Chairman Najam Shah, Finance Secretary Fayaz Jatoi, Principal Secretary to CM Agha Wasif and other senior officials.
