KARACHI: A man was run over and killed by a fast-moving water tanker within the remit of the Quaidabad police station on Wednesday, police said.

A traffic police official said that two men were heading somewhere on a motorcycle. As they reached near Chawal Godown in Landhi, the bike rider tried to overtake a donkey cart but the bike slipped, and they fell. Within seconds, a water tanker (JP-9481) coming from behind ran them over.

He said that as a result of the accident, pillion rider Randan Khan, 17, died on the spot while motorcyclist Adnan Bashir, 20, suffered critical injuries.

The body and the injured person were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The driver responsible for the fatal accident managed to escape from the spot, leaving behind the heavy vehicle, which was impounded by the police.
