SAHIWAL: A father and his fifteen-year-old daughter lost their lives when the roof of an animal shed collapsed due to heavy rain in village 3/10-L on Thursday night.

According to reports, the victims -- Abdur Rasheed and his daughter Sana, residents of village 3/10-L of Harappa -- were shifting their animals from the open field to an indoor shelter during the heavy downpour when the roof caved in. Rescue sources confirmed that Sana died on the spot, while her father succumbed to his injuries at the Harappa RHC.

Meanwhile, the thunderstorm also disrupted the electricity supply in Kasowal, Noor Shah, Kameer, Shah Kot, Gamber and Qadirabad. Officials reported damage to the Shah Murad feeder, resulting in prolonged outages. Power supply to several villages in Harappa and Chichawatni remained suspended for nearly 20 hours. Villagers criticised the Mepco staff for the delay in restoring the electricity supply in the affected areas.

ELECTROCUTED: A youth was electrocuted during a performance of the Lucky Irani Circus at the Muhammad Panah Mela in Kameer late on Thursday night.

Report said the victim, Ali Raza, a resident of Kameer, was watching the show with friends when he accidentally touched a metal pole that had become electrified following the heavy rain and thunderstorm. The wet tents and muddy, slippery ground inside the circus structure worsened the situation.

Eyewitnesses reported that Ali Raza died instantly at the scene.

The Kameer Police immediately reached the spot, arrested circus manager Tahir Javed, and shifted the body to the hospital for autopsy. A case was registered on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Shakeel Ahmed at the Kameer Police station.

On Friday, Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Mustafa rejected the police request for a 14-day physical remand and instead sent the suspect to the Sahiwal Central Prison in judicial custody.
