KASUR: The death toll of a wall collapse incident at a marriage hall on Tuesday has risen to five as three more children succumbed to their injuries in hospital on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, two children had died, while five others and an adult suffered injuries as the wall of the second floor of the wedding hall collapsed during windstorm and rain.

Police arrested two employees of the wedding hall and started investigations.

The incident took place when some guests went to the roof of the first floor to throw currency notes on the wedding procession. Meanwhile, the windstorm and rain started, and the wall where some wedding guests were standing collapsed on the children, who had gathered to catch currency notes.

Two children, identified as Haseeb and Sadi, died on the spot and their bodies were recovered from the debris, while three others–Umar Farooq, Allah Wasaya and Haider – who were referred to Lahore by the doctors at the district headquarters hospital given their critical condition, succumbed to their injuries on Wednesday.

They were buried in a local graveyard later in the day.

Deputy Commissioner Asif Raza visited the wedding hall on Tuesday and ordered legal action against its owner and management for grave negligence.

Police claimed to arrest two employs of the wedding hall.

Investigation SP Ziaul Haq visited the families of the victims and offered condolence, assuring them of justice.
