CHITRAL: A jeep carrying five passengers from Barum Kagh Kosht to Booni skidded off a wet, slippery road and plunged into a deep ravine in Upper Chitral on Tuesday, killing three persons and injuring two others.

Residents and rescue teams reached the site, retrieved the bodies and the injured and shifted them to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, Booni.

The deceased also included a woman and a child.

In a separate incident, Ibrahim Jan, an employee of a local school, was killed after he was struck by a falling boulder while travelling along a hilly track in Mastuj town of Upper Chitral.

Officials said that falling boulders were a frequent hazard in the region during downpours.

Rain has lashed the Chitral district for the last two days, prompting authorities to declare several hilly roads as highly dangerous. Falling boulders and mud debris have made travel increasingly unsafe in various valleys.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a glacial lake outburst flood and landslide alert for the region, urging citizens and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve.

Meanwhile, a woman reportedly ended her life by jumping into a river in Mulkhow tehsil.

Her body was later spotted and retrieved from the river near Parpish village before being transported to the THQ Hospital in Booni for postmortem examination.
