PESHAWAR: The displaced people of Tirah Valley on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against the government’s ‘failure’ to provide the promised compensation to them.

The protest was staged outside the Peshawar Press Club, with the participants demanding that the government immediately provide them the promised compensation and relief package. They said that, though funds had been approved by the government, payments were still not being made to them.

The participants also expressed concern over deforestation in Tirah to make way for construction of official buildings. They said such measures, taken without consulting the local population, were damaging the area’s natural resources. The protesters raised slogans in support of their demands.
