LARKANA: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that his party has effectively buried all conspiracies against integrity of the province.

In this regard, he referred to the resolution recently passed by the Sindh Assembly, and asserted that “no new province will ever be carved out of Sindh as long as PPP holds majority in the house”.

Addressing PPP Qambar-Shahdadkot district’s office-bearers and workers in Mirokhan town, some 20 kilometres from here, on Tuesday, Mr Khuhro stated that the Constitution provides a clear procedure for creating new provinces, which requires two-thirds majority resolution from the concerned provincial assembly. “Until the Sindh Assembly passes such a resolution with a two-thirds majority, no new province can be established,” he said.

Taking a direct swipe at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), he warned that if they believed they could regain their lost popularity by raising this issue, “they are gravely mistaken”.

The demand of a new province in Sindh is nothing but a conspiracy to spread hatred among the people of this province,” he added, and noted that the people of Sindh had always rejected linguistic and sectarian divisions.

RBOD-II project

Speaking about the Right Bank Outfall Drain-II (RBOD-II) project, Mr Khuhro said it had been revised thrice and its cost has ballooned to Rs62 billion. A hefty amount of Rs40 billion has already been spent, but the work still remains stalled.

He disclosed that the irrigation secretary has now declared the project ‘not feasible’ and is seeking a fresh estimate of Rs200 billion to restart it. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the department to resume work immediately using the available funds of over Rs5 billion. The chief secretary has been instructed to appoint a consultant for the project without any delay.

ZAB death anniversary

Mr Khuhro reminded partymen that PPP will observe the 47th death anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on April 4 by holding only district-level prayer ceremonies, citing financial prudence for keeping the events modest. He paid tribute to ZAB for making Pakistan a nuclear power and to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for providing the country with missile technology.

Recruitment

Turning to new jobs, The Sindh PPP chief said that despite delays “caused by MQM-P’s legal challenges against recruitment, the Sindh government has now begun advertising vacancies in various departments through the ‘Sindh Job Portal’ now when the judiciary has vacated the stay. He said all appointments would be made on a merit basis.

Mr Khuhro also demanded that the federal government immediately start construction of the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway and include the Karachi Circular Railway project in the CPEC framework.

Abdul Fatah Bhutto, the general secretary of PPP’s Larkana division, Qama­ruddin Gopang, the Qam­bar-Shahdadkot district presi­­dent, as well as the taluka presidents also spoke.
