KARACHI, June 23: Sindh IGP Jahangir Mirza, has sought implementation of his directives regarding torture cells in the province, and has directed the officials to launch a campaign against private torture cells set up by feudal and errant police officials.

The RPOs, DIGs Operation must immediately revive special human rights cells in their offices, preferably headed by a gazetted officer, to monitor such gross human rights violations in their respective jurisdictions and after preliminary verification bring it to the notice of their superior officers for disciplinary / legal action. Any report appearing in the press should be accordingly checked and verified.

The PPO directed that any official known to practice torture should not be posted in investigation branch.—APP
