LAHORE: The Lahore Zoo received a new a male hippopotamus from Africa Zoo on Wednesday.

According to details, a male hippopotamus brought under the project “Revamping of Lahore Zoo” reached Lahore Zoo from Africa on Wednesday. The zoo already had a female hippo and the new arrival will help in the pairing of this species. The zoo officials said the male hippo was healthy and would remain under observation for the time being.

Lahore Zoo Director Dr Ghulam Rasool said that the new hippo was being kept in a separate enclosure for quarantine purposes. He said the animal would remain in quarantine for some 15 or so days and a team of expert veterinarians were taking care of the animal.

To a question, the director said that the hippo had been bought for Rs25 million. He said the hippo was grazing in his new home and enjoying its pool, as they were riverine animals and love water.
