KARACHI: A fire erupted in a container at the Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) on Monday, officials said.

A spokesperson for the Karachi Port Trust said that its fire department contained the blaze that broke out at KICT in the morning.

“The blaze, which erupted in a top lifter carrying a 40-foot container and spread to nearby empty containers, was reported at 10:26am,” he said.

One fire tender from KPT and two from the Central Fire Station were immediately deployed. “Through quick and coordinated action, the fire was brought under control by 10:45am and fully extinguished by 11:00am,” the spokesperson added.

The KPT official appreciated the support of Karachi Shipyard and the Pakistan Navy, whose fire tenders assisted in the operation.
