BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS

BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS: Installing high-beam headlights and extra flashlights on cars, rickshaws and motorbikes has become a risky trend. Modified headlights affect the vision of other drivers on the road, and that leads to accidents. A large number of road accidents involve high-beam headlights and multi-coloured flashlights which are illegally installed on many vehicles in Karachi. In fact, the basic purpose of headlights is to provide a required vision and alert other drivers so they may pass safely on two-way roads at night. The relevant authorities should take strict action and devise a strategy to halt the installation of flashlights and modification of headlights on vehicles.

PHONE DIRECTORY: Before the era of mobile phones, landline phones dis-played calling line identification (CLI) when installed. Now various marketing agencies, property dealers and unknown persons call at odd hours without revealing their identities. This is invasion of privacy, and there appears to be no remedy in sight. One has to bear this evil. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) should have an online directory to trace back any call so as to stop this growing menace of unknown callers.

BELA-AWARAN ROAD: The Bela-Awaran road is considered to be one of Balochistan’s important land routes, connecting local communities with one another and serving as a crucial link for trade, education and medical purposes. The project was launched five years ago, but it has still not reached anywhere near completion yet. The condition of the Bela-Jhaoo section is particularly alarming. Repeated negligence by the contractor, poor planning, and a lack of seriousness in carrying out the work are the main reasons behind the delay. Additionally, there is also a widespread perception that the alleged indifference and lack of oversight by the National Highway Authority (NHA)across all these years have further worsened the situation.
