SUKKUR, June 17: The boundary wall of the 150-year-old Sadhu Bela temple, revered by Hindus as “Tirath Asthan”, collapsed on Saturday.

Sukkur Hindu Panchayat secretary-general Deewan Chand Chawla said that work on the temple’s repairs was under way but no attention was paid to the boundary wall which had developed cracks at many places.

The Evacuee Trust Property is carrying out its repairing.

Sadhu Bela temple was constructed some 150 years ago on the island in Indus river near Sukkur. Its boundary wall had since been resisting the strong current of water but finally it succumbed to the river’s increasingly strong current.

About 26 bathrooms of the temple were lined with the wall.

BOOKED: Police on Saturday registered an FIR against 23 people for blocking the road and hindering official duty.

Dozens of people including, Sikandar Banglani, vice president of the PPP Jacobabad district, Bashir Ahmed Sarki and Abdul Wahid Noonari had participated in the rally.
