PESHAWAR: A police post in Passani village — about 25 miles south of the provincial capital, came under attack when militants fired on it, police said.
According to officials, the terrorists fired at the post, prompting an exchange of fire. Police personnel deployed at the facility retaliated, forcing the militants to flee.
“The police post came under attack and an exchange of fire took place, but the militants escaped after police retaliated. The situation is under control,” Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad told Dawn.
Gas pipeline blown up
Earlier, on November 26, unidentified individuals blew up a gas pipeline in the Hameed Khan Machine area, about five miles south of the police post in Passani. Local residents said the explosion triggered a fire from the damaged pipeline.
A police official said that the pipeline was blown up for the second time. “The same pipeline was blown up two years ago by terrorists,” he added.
Earlier, on August 15, police and security forces repulsed three midnight militant attacks at separate locations within the jurisdiction of Mattani police station.
Police officials said militants attacked the Hameed Khan police post with modern weapons from a nearby forest but failed to hit the facility as they were firing from a distance.
