KARACHI: Multiple fires which erupted in six places in the metropolis on Thursday were put out by firefighters with no casualty, officials said.

In the first incident, a fire erupted at a factory in Mehran Town of Korangi Industrial Area.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan said the fire broke out in drums containing some chemicals placed on the roof of the factory. He said foam was used to control the blaze.

Two people stranded in a room on the rooftop were safely rescued while three fire tenders took part in the operation.

The second fire incident occurred at the K-Electric junction in the New Karachi Industrial Area and was brought under control by two fire tenders.

The third incident was reported on the roof of a private bank in Korangi-4 near Sultan Hospital. The fire reportedly erupted due to a short circuit. Records of the bank kept in steel boxes were damaged.

The fourth fire broke out at a cattle farm in Malir’s Khurramabad area, where two animals sustained burn injuries. Three fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the blaze.

The fifth incident took place at a plastic warehouse on Akbar Road in Sher Shah. Due to the presence of highly combustible material, firefighters faced difficulties in controlling the fire.

With the assistance of district administration, heavy machinery was brought in to demolish surrounding walls of the godown to segregate raw material and prevent the fire from reigniting, Mr Khan said.

The sixth fire was reported at a gym near Usman Memorial Hospital in the F.B. Area due to a short circuit and was later brought under control.
