KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead while two others were arrested in an “encounter” in Clifton on Saturday, police said.

The suspects, who had allegedly snatched mobile phones from 10 citizens, were fleeing in a rickshaw when a police party intercepted them in Block-2 near Umer Sharif Park. Upon seeing the police, the suspects opened fire. In the ensuing exchange, one suspect was killed, while his two accomplices were arrested.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said the deceased suspect, identified as Ali Haider, was a member of a ‘notorious’ rickshaw gang involved in multiple street crimes. He added that three FIRs had been registered against the suspect at Artillery Maidan, Taimuria and Gizri police stations between 2019 and 2025.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
