KARACHI: The Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) has once again strongly opposed the government’s decision to participate in the so-called Gaza Peace Board without taking parliament or the people into confidence.

In a statement, senior MWM leader Hayat Abbas Najafi said that President Trump’s so-called Peace Board was, in fact, a conspiracy aimed at weakening the legitimate struggle of the oppressed Palestinian people and providing protection to Israeli aggression.

He said Gaza has effectively been turned into an open-air prison where Palestinians have been subjected to oppression, genocide and destruction, adding that resistance against such brutality is a legitimate right.

He said that Israeli leadership, particularly Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, does not

recognise international laws and continues aggressive actions against various countries in the region.

And the new “Peace Board,” presented under the banner of peace, is actually an attempt to disarm Palestinians and strip them of their right to freedom, he added.

The MWM leader criticised the government for joining the initiative without taking Parliament or the public into confidence, warning that such a move jeopardises Pakistan’s credibility and national dignity.

He emphasised that Pakistan is an ideological state and should not be part of any forum that hurts the sentiments of the Muslim Ummah.

The party demanded that the government immediately withdraw from the initiative and maintain Pakistan’s historical and principled stance on the Palestinian issue.

It also called for a public referendum, the convening of a joint session of Parliament, a detailed debate on the decision, and the passage of a resolution rejecting the so-called Peace Board.
