KARACHI, June 14: Leaders of different labour organisations in their joint statement issued on Wednesday condemned the razing of Abbasi Nagar locality in North Karachi Town’s UC 4 area.

Shahla Rizwan of Labour Party Pakistan, Noor Nabi Rahoojo of Awami Tehrik, Usman Baloch of National Workers Party, Kamran Abbas of Pakistan Mazdoor Mahaz, Taj Marri of Jamhoori Workers Committee, Saleem Raza of National Trade Union Federation, Nasir Mansoor of Labour Education Foundation and several other labour leaders said that the locality had been granted lease in 1972 and its residents had agreed to make room for a 40-feet-wide road but the town administration started razing houses to retrieve a100-feet wide land strip.

They claimed that the provincial and city governments, under a conspiracy, were trying to demolish katchi abadis and old goths of Karachi, and vowed to launch a movement against the demolition.—PPI
